Occupation

Life under the theocracy, shapes, affects, and controls the most detailed and private thoughts and actions of individuals. The development of political religion in recent decades in Iran has not only had a significant impact on people's lives, attitudes, and actions but has also affected the structure of social behaviors and spaces. This installation addresses the impact of the theocratic government on individual and social spaces by using the traditional Islamic/Iranian patterns as the visual language of theocracy. The creation of an overwhelming and immersive space out of Islamic patterns represents the impact and authority of the religious power. Despite the alluring beauty of the traditional patterns at first glance, this project impacts the physical experience walking up the stairs or sitting at the tables on a sunny day. I made a gradient change in the patterns’ thickness to emphasize the contrast between light and dark they let inside the space.
